A MURDEROUS mum suffocated her three kids because she was jealous over attention they got from her husband.

Brittany Pilkington, 27, narrowly avoided the death penalty and has been instead locked up for 37 years in prison after she admitted the killings.

The evil mother was arrested in August 2015 for the death of her three-month old boy Noah.

While Pilkington was in custody she admitted to using blankets to suffocating the baby until he died.

She also confessed to killing her two other sons — and three-month old Nial, who died in July 2014 and four-year-old Gavin, who died in April 2015.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said: “A guilty plea cannot undo the heartless acts this woman committed against defenceless children.

"She does not deserve to be called mom.

"But locking her up will at least guarantee she won't be able to repeat this evil."

Earlier the court heard how the mother told police she killed her kids because she was jealous of the attention her husband gave to her sons.

Logan County Prosecutor Eric Stewart said the state’s own experts felt the death penalty was not right for Pilkington because of her “metal defects”.

Her attorney Kort Gatterdam said the mother suffered lead poisoning and years of physical and sex abuse.

Pilkington's husband, Joseph Pilkington, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of sexual imposition for having sex with his wife before they were married, when she was underage.

He originally was charged with sexual battery for beginning a sexual relationship with Pilkington, who was two decades younger, and impregnating her in 2009, when she was 17.

He’d had a romantic relationship with Pilkington's mother prior to that, and his indictment indicated he had been living with Pilkington as a sort of stepfather for years.

He wasn't a suspect in the boys' deaths.
