Terrified passengers evacuated from Vueling jet after ‘crazed intruder storms on board Dublin-bound flight’

TERRIFIED passengers have evacuated from a Vueling jet after a crazed intruder stormed on board a Dublin-bound flight.

The man locked himself in the toilet when cabin crew confronted him at Barcelona Airport today, said a spokesperson for the low-cost Spanish airline.

Flight VY 8720 was due to leave Barcelona for Dublin at 12.40pm local time.

But security guards were warned that a passenger had somehow boarded the plane illegally, reports .

Mark Megarry and Paul Steward told the publication: “Apparently police and security got word that someone had boarded the plane, that shouldn’t have.

“An air hostess began asking everyone on the plane for their boarding passes, and passports.

“The man was sitting in front of us and after the air hostess had checked ours, he jumped out of his seat and ran.”

Paul and Mark added that the man shoved past crew to lock himself in the cubicle.

This was despite another passenger trying to intervene, by blocking his way – who was also pushed aside.

‘PANIC’

Fellow passengers “began to panic” as they were scared there was “a bomb threat or something”, the men said.

Mark tweeted photos of the scene, as Guardia Civil officers walked through the plane towards the toilet.

He added: “On a @vueling flight to Dublin Airport from Barcelona and a man gets the whole flight emptied because he go on with no passport or boarding pass.

“How can this happen in 2019?”

After the plane was evacuated, cops and security guards began negotiating with the man from behind the toilet door to “persuade” him to exit the cubicle.

This person managed to run towards the aircraft toilet and lock himself therein.

Vueling spokesperson

The delay meant that Mark and Paul – along with other passengers – were forced to check in a second time.

A spokesperson for Vueling told The Sun Online: “During the boarding process of flight BCN-DUB VY8720 in Barcelona, gate agents identified a passenger trying to board this flight with a false passport.

“Whilst waiting for the arrival of the authorities, this person managed to run towards the aircraft toilet and lock himself therein.

“There was no impact on passengers and cabin crew and the local authorities are in full charge of the situation.”
