BORIS Johnson’s patriotic vow to tear up the insane Human Rights Act which has seen brave Northern Ireland veterans being hounded through the courts is a victory for common sense.
Of course, nobody is above the law. If there is damning evidence to back up charges against soldiers, then they must face the consequences.
But in the majority of cases, British soldiers, particularly in the campaign in Northern Ireland, got up in the morning to do their duty and keep the peace according to the rules of engagement. In contrast, the terrorists they fought got up intending to maim and kill.
Sadly, any change in the law will come too late for Dennis Hutchings, the dying veteran who now has to undergo a gruelling trial while on dialysis.
But if the Tories win the election, his fellow former servicemen will be spared such undeserved humiliation.
It is grotesque that the Human Rights Act — put in place to protect the vulnerable — has been used against those who risked their lives for their country.
The PM must be heartily congratulated for fixing this burning injustice.

But thanks to Labour’s economically illiterate plan to introduce a four-day week, the world-class care her family received is under threat.
Taxpayers — who are already funding the NHS to the tune of £150billion a year — simply won’t buy the mad notion that doctors and nurses should work four days while still being paid for five.
And if they are to continue providing expert health care, they must be allowed to put the hours in to train.
Corbyn and his cronies claim to love and cherish the NHS. But the truth is that our health service is not safe in their hands.

IF any Brits were still under the impression that Comrade Corbyn has a patriotic bone in his body, his petty decision to snub our fallen heroes this weekend should remove all trace of doubt.
It comes as no surprise that he didn’t attend the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday: He makes it crystal clear that he feels no pride for Britain.
But it is vital that we don’t become immune to his bizarre behaviour. The shocking fact is that a man attempting to be the next PM will cross continents to lay wreaths for foreign terrorists, but won’t attend a memorial event for his own countrymen and women.
He must not be allowed the keys to No10.
