Fireman gets lookalike friend to take DNA test in his place to avoid paying child maintenance
A FIREFIGHTER got a lookalike friend to take a DNA test for him so he could avoid paying child maintenance.
Simon Jordan, 33, owed £16,000 to a nurse who had named him as the father of her child.
So he gave his photo ID to pal Jason Lee Coles and persuaded him to provide the sample at a medical centre.
When the DNA test came back without a match, child support officials ordered further checks as the woman insisted that businessman and firefighter Jordan was the father.
He has now accepted the child is his, Shrewsbury crown court heard.
Jordan and tree surgeon Coles, 40, both of Bridgnorth, Somerset, admitted fraud.
They got suspended jail terms and must do 200 hours unpaid work.
Sentencing, Judge Peter Barrie said: “This was clearly an attempt to derail support of a child.”
