LIB Dem leader Jo Swinson launched her party’s election bid yesterday by saying Jeremy Corbyn is “not fit for the job of prime minister” and calling him a “threat to our national security”.

Ms Swinson also said she is “absolutely categorically ruling out” a Liberal Democrat deal with Labour in the event of a hung parliament.

She said: “On so many grounds, Jeremy Corbyn is not fit for the job of prime minister.

“On the biggest issue of the day [Brexit] he has prevaricated and will not give a straight answer.

“Even now if you ask him whether he is Remain or Leave he will not tell you how he would vote.

“His plans for the economy would take us back to the 1970s. I believe he would be a threat to our national security.”
The party also announced they would invest £11billion into mental health and treat it as seriously as physical complaints.

The Lib Dems pledge to invest in child and teenage mental health services, and want to match waiting times with physical condition.

They have said they will tax an extra penny in the Pound to fund it.

Liberal Democrat health spokeswoman Luciana Berger said it would provide “a solid framework to improving the prospects of those with severe mental ill-health for generations to come”.

It came as the party launched legal action against ITV for excluding Ms Swinson from a TV debate.
