Labour must stop its shameful scaremongering and talking down the NHS, that does so much for patients across our country
I love our NHS. It’s been there for all of us at our moments of greatest need and is this nation’s most trusted and loved institution. I don’t just want to protect our health service – I want to nurture and build it for the future.
This is why the Conservatives are putting an extra £33.9 billion a year into the NHS over the next five years – the longest and largest cash injection in history. And we are determined to ensure that the impact of this investment is felt on the front line.
There are 17,300 more doctors and 8,000 more nurses and health visitors than under Labour in 2010, and for the second year in a row we have record numbers of GPs in training – 3,530 started this year.
The NHS is home to the world’s first ever Genomic Medicine Service, meaning thousands of patients with cancer and rare diseases are receiving more precise and more effective treatment based on their unique DNA code.
And the NHS is treating more patients than ever.
This is a strong record to campaign on and we have to thank the hard working doctors, nurses and support staff that work tirelessly to deliver this incredible care.
I’m also incredibly proud of everything on top of this that the Government has achieved over the past hundred days.
We have announced 20 new hospital upgrades – delivering on the commitment made by the Prime Minister on the steps of Downing Street in July.
We’re improving the early detection and diagnosis of cancer by rolling out brand new scanners to hospitals across England.
HOSPITAL UPGRADES
And we have embarked on the biggest and boldest hospital building programme in a generation – 40 new hospitals across the country over the next decade, ensuring that the NHS will also be delivering for you and your family.
The Conservatives are delivering on what matters most to you, and your family, because we are the true party of the NHS.
Labour, meanwhile, has chosen to go negative and treat our NHS as a political football.
Just this week, they have been talking down our NHS and accusing it of cancelling more and more operations.
Well, as shadow health secretary Jon Ashworth was forced to admit yesterday, this isn’t true – the number of hospital cancellations is falling and there are 2.4 million more operations happening every year, compared to 2010.
Meanwhile, Labour frontbenchers are spreading nonsense about the health service and the price of lifesaving drugs being on the table in trade talks because they don’t have a position on Brexit and have nothing positive to say about anything else.
This is not just wrong – it is shameful, and scares some of the most vulnerable people in our society. And as we prepare for the upcoming election, I call on Labour to stop its shameful scaremongering and to stop talking our health service, that does so much for patients across our country, down.
The people of Britain will have a clear choice at this election: back Boris and get a majority government that will get Brexit done and deliver on the people’s priorities. More police on the streets, investment in our schools, and an NHS that is always there for you and your family.
The alternative is more confusion, more delay and more indecision with Jeremy Corbyn.
