Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson plots Remain electoral pact with Green Party and Plaid Cymru
LIB Dem leader Jo Swinson revealed she was plotting a Remain electoral pact with the Green Party and Plaid Cymru.
They are in talks to try to ensure there is just one anti-Brexit candidate standing in dozens of constituencies.
Two of the parties would stand down to give the one who is most likely to win the best chance in 60 seats.
Ms Swinson said: “Specifics of announcements will be made in due course but discussions have been taking place.
“These are parties that want to stop Brexit and remain in the EU.
“Of course, we should work constructively with other parties to further our ultimate goal, which is protecting our place in the EU so we can have a better future.”
It follows the success of the Remain pact in August’s Brecon and Radnorshire by-election.
The Greens and Plaid made way to let the Libs’ Jane Dodds unseat Tory Chris Davies by 1,425 votes.
The Lib Dems have also agreed not to stand against pro-Remain ex- Tory Dominic Grieve.
The former Attorney General is standing as an independent against the Tory candidate.
Change UK MP and ex-Tory Anna Soubry is also expected to get the same treatment.

The Tories responded angrily.
Deputy chair Paul Scully said: “MPs like Jo Swinson, who have spent the last three years blocking Brexit, are now doing back room deals to try and get a new parliament that will block Brexit again.
“No matter what they say, a vote for the Liberal Democrats will create another hung parliament and risks putting Corbyn into Downing Street, which means years more confusion, delay, and indecision.”
