Senior Tories threatened to topple new Commons Speaker within weeks if they get ‘wrong result’
SENIOR Tories have threatened to topple the new Commons Speaker within weeks if they get the “wrong result”.
Arch-Remainer Harriet Harman is hard on the heels of front runner Lindsay Hoyle in the race to succeed John Bercow.
But fed-up Brexiteers will push for a fresh vote when the new Parliament assembles after the election if she wins.
A Cabinet source said: “If it’s the wrong result we will just kick them out after the election.
“A lot of Labour MPs won’t be there on Monday because they’ll be busy campaigning so it gives us a chance to get the right person in.”

Ms Harman had hoped to postpone the vote until after the election after learning the current crop of MPs appear to be in favour of Mr Hoyle.
Animal-loving Chorley MP Mr Hoyle has told pals he will bring his beloved pets to Speakers’ house if he wins the contest.
He has a parrot called Boris, a nine-stone Rottweiler named Gordon, because it has a “great clunking paw”, and a tortoise, Maggie which is “not for turning” and boasts a hard shell.
