DONALD Trump hinted Meghan Markle should toughen up yesterday as he claimed she takes press coverage "very personally", after she opened up about her struggles.

The US president revealed he had seen interviews with the Duchess of Sussex following her marriage to Prince Harry, who he called a "really fine young man".

Speaking during an interview with Nigel Farage on LBC, he appeared to suggest Meghan could toughen up after her emotional ITV documentary.

He said: "Well I’ve been watching her interviews and I’ve seen it and she’s taking it very personally.

"I guess you have to be a little bit different than that, but she’s take it very, very personally and I can understand it but I don't know her."

Trump did heap praise on the royals though as he branded the entire family "terrific".

EMOTIONAL INTERVIEW

His comments came after explosive ITV documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey aired earlier this month.

During the documentary, ITV's Tom Bradby followed the couple on Meghan and Harry's Africa tour, interviewing both the Duke and Duchess separately.

Close to tears, Meghan explained: "Look, any woman especially when they are pregnant you’re really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a newborn – you know…

"And especially as a woman, it’s a lot. So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mum or trying to be a newlywed it’s, well…

"And, also thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I’m OK. But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes."

Tom asks her directly if it is fair to say that it has been a struggle, and looking emotional, Meghan replies: "Yes."

Prince Harry also spoke about his mother Princess Diana's death as he continued her work and said it is still a "wound that festers".

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex today wished their Instagram followers a happy Halloween "from our little pumpkin to yours".

Their post was accompanied by a picture of the couple holding hands as they attended a special effects workshop on their New Zealand tour last year.
