Serial killer Dennis Nilsen died in agony and was left lying in his own faeces for two hours, inquest hears
SERIAL killer Dennis Nilsen died in agony in prison, his inquest was told yesterday.
He was found slumped over a toilet in excruciating pain by officers who went to his cell after he rang an alarm bell.
Nilsen, 72, was checked by medics who saw no need for urgent treatment.
He was left lying in his own faeces for two hours as his condition deteriorated, the inquest heard.
When paramedics were eventually called to maximum security Full Sutton jail, East Yorks, they found he had a ruptured aortic aneurysm.
Nilsen, serving a whole life term, was taken to hospital but died hours later in May 2018.
Prison ombudsman Sue McAllister told the inquest in Hull: “Health care staff did not review his health when asked.”
Nilsen was jailed in 1983 after confessing to killing up to 16 men.
Verdict: Natural causes.
