Mum who pulled son, 9, from school over tuna sandwich row admits story wasn’t true

A MUM who pulled her nine-year-old son out of class after a row about a tuna sandwich has admitted the story wasn't true.

Stacy Jarvis, 31, claimed her son Jayden Hunter “went all day without food” and was unable to get a hot dinner after food ran out while he “took his time” on the toilet.

She argued with the headteacher at Thanet Primary School in Hull after Jayden was offered a tuna sandwich instead of his chosen hot meal.

Stacy was furious and vowed not to send Jayden back until the school apologised to him for "making him hungry."

But she admitted she didn't know her son was offered a hot Shepherd's Pie - which he refused.
She only found out when the headteacher wrote to say the school had not run out of hot food.

FURIOUS ROW

She said: "He said that when he went the dinner lady gave him the Shepherds Pie and he said 'I don’t like that' and that’s when they gave him the tuna sandwich and he said 'I don’t like that'.

"He said they said 'It’s either that or nothing', that’s what he just told me. I really don’t know why the school didn’t say that in the first place.

"I don’t know why [the headteacher] hasn’t said anything to me in person."

After being threatened with a fine for unauthorised absence, the mum-of-three sent Jayden back to school after one day off, with a packed lunch.

The single mum claimed the school had "backed down" after they assured her he would not go hungry again.

However, Miss Jarvis has now received a letter warning her she will be banned from the school grounds if she is "rude and aggressive" again.

In a statement to , the headteacher said: "Thanet School promotes five key values of respect, responsibility, kindness, honesty and friendship.

I have no reason to be banned from the playground as I was only doing my best interest of my child not being fed.

"I have written to Miss Jarvis to request she adheres to these values.”

The letter - relating to a conversation between the headteacher and Miss Jarvis on Wednesday at the school - said: "I will not tolerate a repeat of this type of behaviour towards either the school or the staff.

"If this happens again I will have to take further advice which could result in you being banned from the school site."

Miss Jarvis said she was stunned to receive the letter, which was sent by e-mail.

She said: "I have no reason to be banned from the playground as I was only doing my best interest of my child not being fed, I'm sure if he went to school and said I wasn't feeding him that would be a different story.

HUNGRY CHILD

"I don't get why she doesn't see my point as a mother, a parent, that my child was hungry at school because they didn't feed him.

"I don't get what's going on now with the headteacher, why she hasn't asked for a meeting to talk to me properly about this whole situation.

"Also, not once has she said to me about children and parents complaining about me, only until she sent the email, so as in her profession shouldn't she of banned me then?

"I think she needs to make her mind up, I think she is saying all this now to have her own back. It's a joke. I don't know why she hasn't said anything to me in person.

"I'm fuming with the e-mail she sent to me."
