HUNTER FOR RED OCTOBER
Spectacular red ‘hunter’s moon’ appears, signalling the start of Autumn
A BLOOD-red full moon dominates the skyline as it rises above Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire.
Known as the Hunters Moon it follows the September Equinox which signals the start of Autumn.
Night Kayakers also took to the water to observe the moon rising at Fountainstown, Co. Cork, Ireland.
It was also snapped over Stonehenge and Glastonbury.

Hunters and farmers would use the light of the full moon to harvest crops and track prey, stockpiling for the winter.
Traditionally this also meant preserving the meat they caught to keep them going through the cold months.
A hunter's moon, much like the Harvest Moon in September, has a red colour due to the short time between sunset and moon rise.
