But suspect Anne Sacoolas, 42, claimed diplomatic immunity and fled back to the US before she could be quizzed by UK cops over causing death by dangerous driving.

It was today reported Ms Sacoolas' husband is not on the official diplomatic list and was protected under bilateral US-UK agreements covering spy bases.

And Harry's parents have continued to demand answers - saying they were willing to go to America to fight for justice for their son.

Speaking to the BBC today, mum Charlotte Charles said: "If we have to, we will go to Washington.

"We don’t want it to have to come to that. We just want to talk with her.

"We don’t understand how you can just get on a plane and leave behind the devastation she has without even facing us, or an apology of any kind."

And the devastated mother said she wanted to grieve but felt in limbo with police unable to properly investigate the tragedy.

Holding back tears, she said: "It just doesn't feel right. As a mother myself and many other people who have come forward and fought for us - all the way around the world now - it's just really distressing not to have any word from her being a mum herself.

"I can't get my head around that, it doesn't sit well with me."

And the teen's grandmother Judith Dunn demanded more to be done when it came to how diplomatic immunity was used.

She said: "Certain scenarios would probably warrant such claims.

"But Harry's tragedy is nothing to do with any of these.

"A life.. a totally innocent life... has been taken in the most appalling way."

Downing Street this week said the case was "extremely concerning"; and urged the US to "reconsider their position" so "the justice process can take place".

Urging the US to reconsider its decision to give immunity to the diplomat's wife, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "I do not think it can be right to use the process of diplomatic immunity for this type of purpose."

Northamptonshire Police have written to the US embassy in London to demand immunity is waived for Mrs Sacoolas, who left the UK after the crash despite telling officers she did not plan to do so.

A Foreign Office spokesman said Mr Raab had "reiterated his disappointment with the US decision and urged them to reconsider".

It comes after it was revealed the 42-year-old American had been previously rapped for "failing to pay attention" while driving in 2006.

But cops in the US state of Virginia — where the road offence took place — could not provide further details as files were destroyed a decade ago.

Harry's family said they had received support from across the globe. with their GoFundMe page reaching its target.

GMB host Piers Morgan also blasted the situation, saying: "President Trump - get her on a plane and get her to come back and answer the questions."

Morgan doubled down on his comments from yesterday, where he said the "scandal" had "shamed" America.

RAF Croughton is currently on lease to the American government and processes approximately one third of all US military communications in Europe.

Diplomatic immunity allows unhindered travel for government envoys and their families.

reported that the alleged driver was advised to leave the UK by the American Embassy.
