A HUSBAND murdered his pregnant wife as their marriage broke down amid her suspicions that he was having an affair with a girl of 15, a court heard yesterday.
Debbie Griggs, 34, vanished 20 years ago, after she had alleged in an affidavit that Griggs kneed her in the stomach while she was pregnant.
Devoted mum-of-three Debbie was four-and-half months pregnant with her fourth child.
Jurors heard Debbie suspected her businessman husband Andrew Griggs, 57, was having an inappropriate relationship with an under-age girl.
She called him “bullying”, Canterbury crown court was told.
Although Griggs denied the illegal affair, his wife’s suspicions sparked friction for the last six months of their nine-year marriage before her May 1999 disappearance, the court was told.
An extract from Debbie’s diary detailed her concerns over Griggs’s alleged affair with the teenager and read: “He is out every night.”
The entry said he “spends only approximately” an hour and a half at home a night and added that he had “spent more time with” the 15-year-old girl.
Several weeks before auxiliary nurse Debbie vanished, Griggs told a pal he “wished she was dead”, prosecutor Duncan Atkinson QC said.

He alleged Griggs murdered Debbie, disposed of her body and ditched the car in May 1999.
Griggs then told friends she had left him and their three young sons, the court heard.
Griggs, of St Leonards, Dorset, denies murder. The trial continues.
