It's been reported Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) stormed into the camp after a mob of fanatics tried to impose archaic religious rules on those inside after holding doctors hostage.

Reporters say the women were tackled just as they were about to "lash a woman" brave enough to stand up to them.

When the troops ordered them to stop it's claimed the women shouted "Allahu Akbar" and opened fire on the soldiers.

In the resulting firefightone of the "brides" was killed, seven were injured and 50 more were arrested.

Mustafa Bali, the head of the SDF press office, revealed the situation at the camp is now "deteriorating sharply.”

He added that never-say-die ISIS warlords ";have stepped up their regrouping efforts through women in the camp.”

Security forces carried out the raid after allegedly receiving information the women were attempting to establish religious courts in the section holding westerners in the camp.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the women involved in the riots were working undercover for ISIS'S hardline moral police force - the Hisbah.

SOHR also claimed the women used light firearms in the shootout, however it is unclear how they managed to obtain the weapons.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), who provide health care in the camp, said their doctors were not hold captive during the incident.

Robert Onus, the organisation's emergency manager for Syria, said medics were running a daily clinic in the part of the camp which houses 10,000 foreigners when the trouble started.

He added: "MSF teams treated four women with gunshot wounds in the MSF clinic in the Annex, while at the same time, the medical teams and patients took cover from ongoing shooting.

"All of our teams are safe and continue to monitor the situation closely. We are extremely worried about the wellbeing of the people held in the camp.

"MSF calls upon the camp management and security authorities to ensure the safety and security of the entire camp population.

"The management of protests or unrest should be done with restraint and in consideration of the vulnerability of the women and children who comprise 94 percent of the camp population.

"Our doctors should not be treating women for gunshot wounds in a closed camp setting; if we find ourselves in such a situation, something has gone terribly wrong."
