Britain threw out 5,000 foreign criminals last year — but 9,000 remain in our jails

THE UK threw out more than 5,000 foreign cons last year, The Sun on Sunday can reveal.

But more than 9,000 lags from abroad remain in our jails.

Figures show there were 5,203 Foreign National Offenders among 8,060 “enforced returns” in the 12 months to July.

The total number also includes removals from detention centres and failed asylum seekers.

Romania had the most returns (1,246), followed by Albania (1,233), Poland (723) and Brazil (455).

In August, the Sun on Sunday revealed one in ten foreign prisoners in jail are Albanian.
They represent 876 of the 9,089 Foreign National Offenders.

UK COCAINE TRADE

The surge is blamed on gangsters from the West Balkan country controlling the UK cocaine trade.

But according to the stats, the number of Albanians deported went down 383 from 2018, the largest reduction of any country.

In 2017/18, the Government deported 10,914 foreigners— representing a year-on-year a fall of 26 per cent.

The Home Office said on-going legal challenges to detentions and removals caused the reduction.

Since the beginning of 2010 there have been over 362,000 voluntary or enforced returns.
