Britain threw out 5,000 foreign criminals last year — but 9,000 remain in our jails
THE UK threw out more than 5,000 foreign cons last year, The Sun on Sunday can reveal.
But more than 9,000 lags from abroad remain in our jails.
Figures show there were 5,203 Foreign National Offenders among 8,060 “enforced returns” in the 12 months to July.
Albanian killer Ardian Rragami, 47, was deported in March — eight days after The Sun pictured him holding a knife to his wife’s throat.
The total number also includes removals from detention centres and failed asylum seekers.
Romania had the most returns (1,246), followed by Albania (1,233), Poland (723) and Brazil (455).
In August, the Sun on Sunday revealed one in ten foreign prisoners in jail are Albanian.
They represent 876 of the 9,089 Foreign National Offenders.
UK COCAINE TRADE
The surge is blamed on gangsters from the West Balkan country controlling the UK cocaine trade.
But according to the stats, the number of Albanians deported went down 383 from 2018, the largest reduction of any country.
