Chancellor Sajid Javid always wanted a home-building revolution – and it’s finally happening
Saj the builder
SAJID Javid always wanted a home-building revolution — only to see it held back by dismal ex-Chancellor Philip Hammond.
Now Sajid runs the Treasury and Hammond isn’t even a Tory.
Which could be great news for a young generation priced out of the housing market.
A year ago The Sun attacked the Tories’ feeble efforts to build new homes. One much-trumpeted injection of funds was only enough for 7,000 a year, a fraction of the increase needed.
We said only a bonfire of planning restrictions would do.
And Mr Javid is promising just that, for new builds and extensions.
He must also face down NIMBY neighbours and stop developers hoarding plots or releasing homes at a snail’s pace to keep prices high.
We look forward to the detail . . . and hope it is not over-hyped, as so much was under Theresa May.
Real change could bring homes in London and the South East within millennial buyers’ reach for the first time.
Go for it, The Saj.
Block Corbyn
GIVING Jeremy Corbyn power even for one second would harm Britain for a generation — and here’s why:
To job-creating firms and foreign investors, we are a safe haven.
Corbyn believes in none of that. His policies should terrify anyone with a job, a business, pension, savings, a home or even a car. Labour would hammer businesses and seize private property.
Remainer MPs seem tempted to install him in No10 “temporarily”. Remember how Labour only put the hard-left dinosaur on their leadership ballot in 2015 to “widen the debate”? That went well.
Does anyone seriously believe Marxists who have lusted after revolution for decades would surrender power once gifted it? And what message will we have sent to the world even if they did?
That our formerly serious country is only ever one act of madness away from installing a Marxist government with the same policies that reduced once-rich Venezuela to Third World ruin.
The SNP couldn’t care less. They want to leave the UK. They will merrily help Corbyn for another independence vote.
All other sane MPs must halt this lunacy.

Major hypocrite
“BETRAYAL” is a word with no place in our politics, preaches holier-than-thou John Major, who used exactly that word as PM.
MPs must soften their language, insists Major, who branded three Eurosceptic Tory ministers “bastards”.
“Political chicanery” must not be used to take us out of the EU with No Deal, rules Major — who once swerved a scandal using his own chicanery and now backs any and all tricks to stop Brexit.
Once PM. Now Britain’s biggest hypocrite.
