Chitty Chitty Bang Bang fan builds replica flying car – valued at a whopping £200,000

A CHITTY Chitty Bang Bang fan has built a life-like replica of the flying car.

And it is valued at a whopping £200,000.

Rob, 52, of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, spent six years building the motor made famous in the 1968 classic.

He was first interested in purchasing the original car when it went up for auction in 2011, but he couldn't afford it.

So instead he decided to build his own version, sourcing specific parts over several years.

But the process took quite a lot of time due to the the complex shape of the famous vehicle.

Rob, a professional musician, said: "I've been a life-long Chitty fan of the car, the movie and the musical- have always dreamed I’d own Chitty myself one day.

"It’s still my favourite film, I know the lyrics by heart and I adore the music.

"I spoke to the owner Pierre Picton, he was so charming and said the car would one day soon be up for auction but lacking the money to cover the cost, I decided to build my own.

"He thought it would go for about a million – there was no way I could afford that so I only had one option which was to build my own."

The electric car is largely made up of fibreglass and powered by a 48-volt engine which is capable of hitting 30mph.

Despite it not being road legal, the motor is often used in weddings, displays and musical theatre productions.

"She transports people instantly to their childhoods-we see tears of happiness so often.

"Everybody becomes a child again, around five years old when they see it.

"She is really loved- I hadn’t realised how important it was for people."

Another car enthusiast built a Back To The Future-inspired DeLorean which can be driven by a remote control.

The custom motor can be completely controlled using a remote control, with different levers for the brakes, steering and throttle.
