Electric car charge points to be installed in every new home – saving Brits £1,000 in charging fees
ELECTRIC car chargers could be installed in every new home in the UK.
And it could save Brits more than £1,000 a year in charging fees.
The Department of Transport recently opened public consultation on plans that would make it mandatory to have an electric chargepoint in all newly-built homes.
The world-first initiative would mean drivers with a dedicated parking space would have their very own electric charger to use at home.
Currently, electric car owners either to install their own charger or use one of the 100,000 public wallboxes around the country.
Motorists could save up to £1,000 a year if using their own charger, according to Pod Point, rather than relying upon public facilities.
And if you're swapping from a petrol motor to an electric engine, the program could even save you up to £41,000 a year.
The department also recently called for contactless payment systems to be installed on all public chargers by next year.
The innovation would mean drivers wouldn't need to use multiple cards and smartphone apps to pay for a charge.
