We crash £11,799 Yamaha MT-10 motorcycle to test R&G protection kit
Taking the time to invest in crash protection kit is a wise move
THE only thing bikers like less than crashing is talking about crashing. It’s like a jinx. Talk about it and it will come.
So we ignore the subject in the hope it passes us by and finds some other unlucky rider.
Here at The Sun, we think the best way to deal with a problem is to meet it head on, and for that reason we decided to take a box-fresh Yamaha MT-10 and throw it down the road in the name of research.
Crashing an £11,799 motorcycle is never a good idea, whether on purpose or not, unless you have taken the time to invest in some of the best crash protection kit (which we did) from R&G.
Composite material cases screw over the points of your bike that touch the road first in the event of a crash. It is a simple and very well-executed idea.
Right, let’s see what happened.
The rider set off and held a steady 30mph before locking the rear tyre and laying the bike down on purpose, pretty much an exact replica of a fairly common crash.
The 165bhp machine hit the tarmac like a dropped toilet seat. Bike and rider separated with all the grace of a messy divorce.
One went one way with his head in his hands, while the other slid towards the horizon with a scraping and very expensive sounding shriek.
When the dust settled, we lifted the poor bike back on to the side stand to survey the damage.
Amazingly, the kit had done its job. No scuffs on the expensive bodywork and a bike that was capable of being ridden home.
When you consider the repair bill without the R&G kit fitted would easily have crept close to £2,000, the idea of investing a couple of hundred quid makes complete sense.

You might not think it is the sexiest accessory to add to your bike, but it is certainly one of the wisest moves you will make as a biker.
