Stock 1994 Toyota Supra with just 11,000 miles on the clock sells for a ridiculous £132,000

With a very low mileage and a well-conditioned engine, the Supra is a rare find for any keen tuner looking to modify the classic model

A 25-YEAR-OLD Toyota Supra has sold for almost three times the cost of a brand new model.

The 1994 Mk IV Twin Turbo Targa was snapped up at a US auction for a whopping £132,000.

The sale makes this particular model the most expensive Mk IV ever publicly sold.

Despite the incredible price, the car is essentially a stock model, with auction house RM Sotheby's describing it as "largely in original condition".

Spending most of its life in the US before being imported to Switzerland in 2018, the Supra has just 11,200 miles on the clock and boasts a 0-60mph time of 5.6seconds.

Following the release of the fourth-generation Supra in 1993, it began to develop a cult following and has gone on to maintain a reputation as "one of the most exciting Japanese performance cars of all time".

The sports cars have always been particularly popular among import tuners, making stock versions even more difficult to come by.

Their high-performance engines also meant they were driven quite hard by original owners, so finding a low-mileage, well-conditioned Supra is becoming more rare.

Demand for the original models appears to be on the rise, with a similar 7,111-mile Supra selling for £91,000 earlier this year.

Fans are even opting to purchase the classic 90s versions over brand new models, with the 2019 Supra retailing for around £52,000.

The car was sold at RM Sotheby's Youngtimer Collection sale in Amelia Island.
