Thousands of cyclist and pedestrian lives could be saved by using a £10 invisible spray

The Albedo100 spray cannot be seen by the naked eye but illuminates in artificial lights

AN INVISIBLE spray may be a lifesaver for cyclists and pedestrians using the road in the dark.

Naked to the eye, the £10 spray illuminates into a high-vis colour once artificial lights – such as car headlights – are shone on them.

More than 100 cyclists died last year on the road

Last year, 470 pedestrians were killed on UK roads as well as 101 cyclists.

Out of the 23,805 total pedestrian casualties in 2017, 36 per cent of those injuries and deaths occurred between 3pm and 7pm. A quarter of casualties were also aged 15 and under.

More than 18,000 cyclists were victim to a road incident last year too. Nearly half of those occurred on a weekday at 7am to 9am and 3pm to 7pm – which are likely to be low-light times in winter months.

An Albedo100 spokesperson said: “We believe our product is a major breakthrough in road safety which can help save the lives of thousands of UK road users over the coming years.

Eye-popping Ferrari with most powerful engine EVER on sale - but has big drawback

“Anything that makes vulnerable road users more visible to oncoming traffic has to help reduce the number of accidents on our roads.

“The official figures show just how vulnerable pedestrians and cyclists can be and particularly so during the winter when it can get dark as early as 4pm.

“Many children are out using roads at this time on their way home from school and Albedo100 can help make sure they are easily seen by on-coming traffic.”
