Motors site included 75 cars in the annual Driver Power survey.

The score is based on the percentage of owners who experienced problems with their cars in the last 12 months.

Seven out of the top 10 most reliable cars were Japanese, with three Lexus and Toyota models and one Honda.

The Volvo V40, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Skoda Yeti also made the list.

On the flip side, three Vauxhalls entered the least dependable list, as well as two generations of the British-built Nissan Qashqai.

The A4 was accompanied by Audi's A3 saloon, as well as fellow German carmaker Volkswagen's Polo.

Despite their unreliability, the Vauxhall Corsa, Polo and A3 were all in the top 10 of Britain's best-selling used cars of Q1, 2018.

Just under 150,000 of the three models were sold second-hand in Q1, according to the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders).

Earlier this month, Tesla was named as the least reliable car maker by WhatCar? scoring just 57.3 per cent in its own reliability survey.

Tesla's Model S was also listed as the worst new car for dependability with half of all owners surveyed logging problems.

Japanese cars again topped the table with the Toyota Yaris, Suzuki Sx4 S-Cross, Nissan Leaf and Toyota RAV 4x4 all scoring over 99 per cent.
