Jenson Button has put his bespoke McLaren P1 hypercar on sale for a whopping £1.6million

The former Formula One champion said he doesn't get a chance to drive the 217mph car now that he's moved to Los Angeles

BRITISH racing driver Jenson Button is regrettably selling his McLaren P1 hypercar for £1.6million.

Now living in the US, the former Formula One champion doesn't get a chance to drive the 217mph car, and so has decided that "someone else can enjoy her".

Announcing the sale on his Instagram account, Button also said that he gave the P1 a "final blast"; up to the Silverstone track ahead of his World Endurance Championship race in August.

It is now being sold by the luxury car dealership based in Suffolk.

The three-year-old P1 boasts a low 551 miles on the clock, and is one of a kind as McLaren equipped the car with a bespoke performance upgrade for its former racer.

The 'Track Mode 2' software is a road-legal version of the original 'Race Mode', which costs £20,000 alone.

With 903hp, the hybrid car can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 2.8 seconds.

It is laced in carbon-fibre and includes yellow calipers with yellow contrast stitching inside to match.

The Grauschwartz Grey paint work is also custom on the 719Nm torque P1.

It is unknown whether McLaren gifted the car to Button whilst he drove for its affiliated F1 team during his seven-year tenure from 2010.

The now-endurance racer won the F1 championship in 2009 for Brawn GP.

Upon moving to Los Angeles, the 38 year old took delivery of a McLaren 657LT.

In the past, he's reportedly owned a Bugatti Veyron and Enzo Ferrari as well.
