The oddest items found in untaxed cars revealed by the DVLA, including Beavis and Butt-head trading cards
Over 600 personal belongings were found in clamped and impounded cars in the last year
WHAT junk do you leave in the back of your car?
The DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) has revealed over 600 items they’ve found in untaxed cars over the past 12 months.
As well as a myriad of pint glasses and playing cards, the stranger belongings include a toilet basin and sink.
Having been clamped and impounded, the car owners have a month’s time to claim their possessions before they are sold at auction or later disposed of.
Half a corner sofa, multiple men’s torso mannequins and washing machines were also amongst the ‘bagged and tagged’.
“Four topless models” were listed as found – we assume posters, although the DVLA couldn’t confirm the exact nature – as well as a pack of Baywatch playing cards.
Power tools were a common find along with a DIY work bench and hard hats.
There were some valuable pieces amongst the items, with musical instruments in particular being a popular forgotten treasure.
A full drum kit with a Cort ‘Groove Engine GE15B’ amplifier set was found – the latter costing around £70 secondhand alone.
An acoustic guitar complete with accessories, stand and carry-case was also left in one untaxed car.
A highly-collectable Louis Wain book of illustrated cats from the 1920s, a Segway and a 32-inch smart LED TV were among the valuables as well.
Tim Burton, DVLA’s Head of Enforcement, said: “Having your car clamped is expensive and inconvenient – and as this list of items shows, you could end up losing more than just the car!
“DVLA operates a range of measures to make vehicle tax easy to pay and hard to avoid.
“While the vast majority of motorists do the right thing and tax their cars correctly, it is right that we take action against those that break the law and fail to tax their car.
“The law is clear and so are the consequences – tax it or lose it.”
