But the recent Auto China Show has turned out some of the most futuristic yet.

With entries from the likes of McLaren, MG, Renault and Mercedes, the technology on display is a small window into what the cars of the future will really be like.

From electric motors of all shapes and sizes, to ultra-luxury SUVs and autonomous taxis, many of the vehicles featuring in Beijing could be on our roads as soon as next year.

And with China being the world's largest car market, it's no surprise they are being rolled out at this year's Auto China.
