GONE are the days of dad being the fountain of knowledge when it comes to car repairs - now it's the younger generation in the know.
According to a recent study, 17-24-year-olds are now more confident in performing basic car maintenance tasks than the older generation.
Conducted by LV=, the survey revealed millennials were far more confident with car repairs, with 50 per cent saying they would find it easy to perform basic maintenance tasks on their motor.
But when it came to drivers aged over 45, just 31 per cent felt they would have the same skills, despite the common belief that mechanical knowledge is a thing of the past.
The difference in understanding comes as more young people are learning about car maintenance via the internet.
The study found Google searches for "how to" videos on motor repairs are increasing by 70 per cent each year.
As many as 95 per cent of millennials use YouTube as their main source for mechanical knowledge, compared to just 68 per cent of those over the age of 35.
And a lack of knowledge among older generations could be costing British households hundreds of pounds when small maintenance issues aren't regularly looked after.
