Toyota has revealed a new GR Super Sports Concept in Tokyo with tech direct from its Le Mans race car
TOYOTA has revealed a stunning new hypercar - and it previews the return of the legendary Supra badge.
The incredible 987bhp GR Super Sport concept unveiled in Tokyo uses tech direct from Toyota's Le Mans racer.
The hybrid prototype is made by Gazoo Racing - Toyota's performance arm - that recently launched the hot Yaris GRMN in the UK.
And a new sports car, expected to wear the Supra name, is due later this year.
The 2.4-litre V6 petrol engine twinned with extra electric power seen in this concept could be tuned to sit in the upcoming road-legal model.
The design of the concept features the same wraparound windshield and single rear fin.
The inspiration comes from Toyota's TS050 hybrid which is competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
The ultimate goal for the race project is victory at the iconic Le Mans 24 Hour race later this year.
It's a hypercar that would rival the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Mercedes Project One if it was built.
Shigeki Tomoyama, President of Toyota Gazoo Racing, said: “Rather than developing production cars into sports cars, we aim to work out how to incorporate the know-how gained from racing and rallying into production cars.
