Forget the Lamborghini Urus – the original 1980s LM002 just sold for DOUBLE the price of the new SUV
A rare example of the Lamborghini LM002 - the original Lambo SUV - has sold at auction for £350,000. That's twice the price of the brand new Urus launched last week
THOUGHT the new Lamborghini Urus was expensive at £165,000? Think again.
It's all about the 30-year-old original Lambo SUV which has just sold at auction for £467,000 (£350,000).
The rare model - dubbed the "Rambo Lambo" - was bought for twice the price of the new super-SUV.
The Urus with 190mph top speed and 0-62mph time of just 3.6 seconds dwarfs the LM002's performance figures.
But the mad LM002 is worth a fortune thanks to its rarity and popularity as the greatest ever "toy".
It might not be quite as sleek as the new model but it was the choice of military figures and Middle Eastern royalty.
Just 301 of the original SUV were ever made.
And the 1990 version that sold for the huge figure was one of just 48 built in LM/American spec that were delivered to the United States.
Based on a military prototype, Lambo fitted a luxurious wood and leather interior and strapped a huge V12 engine from its iconic Countach into the bonnet.
It was a real "never been seen before motor" with 0-60mph in 7.7 seconds and 130mph top speed plus the ability to climb mountains and traverse rivers.

There were also a set of special run-flat Pirelli tyres - well ahead of their time.
The recently sold model also features a new Alpine stereo system and Bluetooth setup - and the rare rear cargo toolbox, tonneau cover, proper LM/A floor mats, and correct LM/A chrome bumpers.
The new owner won't have to worry about filling up too often either as it's got a huge 345-litre fuel tank. For comparison the Urus comes in at just 85 litres.
