£1million McLaren P1 hypercar written off after bursting in to flames in suspected fuel leak
The supercar, capable of 240mph, was written off after it was engulfed by flames - which the owner managed to escape unharmed
PETROLHEADS were left crying at the weekend when a £1million McLaren hypercar went up in flames.
The bright blue P1 – just one of 375 made – was written-off on Friday at Colnbrook near Slough, Berks.
The owner is understood to have hopped out uninjured and could only watch as his prized 240mph motor with an electric hybrid engine turned into a fireball.
Car-watchers are speculating that it was caused by a fuel leak after a video taken by a following driver showed a trail of liquid.
McLaren, now examining the car, said: “We believe it’s an isolated incident.”
Second hand P1 McLarens, made in Woking, Surrey, using Formula One technology, usually go for upwards of £1.5 million.
