Unique pair of 200mph McLaren supercars with ‘liquid silver’ paintjob have been delivered to one super-rich owner
Two special editions 679bhp McLarens have been created for a mega-rich buyer. The V8 supercars were created by McLaren Special Operations - but the price has been kept under wraps
WHEN you've got money to burn, you don't need to shop at your regular dealer.
No, instead you go to McLaren and ask them to make you a pair of one-off supercars.
And because you're SO wealthy, you get one drop-top for your holidays and another one with a roof in case it's raining.
The super-rich buyer has just taken delivery of this stunning pair created by McLaren Special Operations.
Finished in "liquid silver" paint, the MSO R Coupe and R Spider are the only ones of their kind.
Under the bonnet is the same 3.8-litre V8 engine found in the standard 650S but power has been boosted to 679bhp.
The standard motor can top 200mph and race to 60mph in under three seconds so expect these bespoke motors to top that.
The exhaust is made of titanium to deal with the extreme temperatures the MSO Rs will kick out.
Both supercars get a carbon fibre racing stripe and the same hi-tech rear wing to aid track performance.
Black five-spoke alloy wheels complete the unique look.
Inside, the pair are even more distinctive with bold red Alcantara leather seats, black stitching and a carbon fibre steering wheel.
The models get bespoke dials, displays and gear shift lights - and even a MSO R branded key.
The cars are the latest models to roll out of the MSO division following its launch in 2012 with the X-1.
Other supercar makers also have similar personalisation arms and it's the latest way for the upper class to flash the cash.
Jolyon Nash, executive director of global sales and marketing at McLaren, said: "An MSO Personal Commission is the highest level of partnership between a customer and McLaren Special Operations, undertaken to design, develop and create unique interpretations of McLaren cars, expertly tailored to meet the exact requirements of the owner.
"A typical MSO Personal Commission extends beyond paint colours and materials and finishes to encompass changes to body and interior design and also dynamic and powertrain enhancements as required.
"The result is a McLaren personalised by MSO to become a car that is literally one of a kind – or in the case of these stunning MSO R cars, one of a matched pair."
And because these cars are one-offs and bought by a private buyer there's no list price.
But with the standard 650S costing almost £200,000 you can be sure it's upwards of half a million for the pair.
