New Range Rover revealed with plug-in hybrid added to £80,000 luxury off-roader
Flagship SUV unveiled for 2018 with hybrid engines for the first time ever. The £80,000 model is also packed with state-of-the-art technology like massage chairs and dual touchscreens
THE flagship Range Rover has been given a makeover for 2018 - and it's going electric.
The luxury off-roader gets new technology including hot stone massage seats plus a plug-in hybrid.
The reveal of the £80,000 British motor comes hot on the heels of the first ever plug-in Range Rover Sport.
Although, you'll need at least £87,000 for the 2.0-litre P400e "entry level" petrol hybrid.
You'll be able to do 31 miles of all-electric driving and charge up in just under three hours.
It's the first time the luxury Range Rover will offer zero emissions motoring.
The plug-in also features a Predictive Energy Optimisation (PEO) function that uses GPS data to decide where best to employ the electric only driving - like in congestion charging zones or low emissions areas.
If you're not quite ready to take the eco plunge but want a slice of Range Rover joy - there are still petrol and diesels.
Prices start from £80,000 for the 3.0-litre diesel and rise all the way to a whopping £177,000 for the range-topping long wheelbase 5.0-litre V8 model.
What you get for your money is pretty impressive.
Aside from a Range Rover that'll take you anywhere you want - on or off-road - the cabin is sumptous.
Seats have 24-way movement, heated arm and foot rests and hot stone massage technology.
There's 17 connection points including domestic plugs, USB, HDMI and 12V plus 4G wifi hotspots for up to eight devices.
The centre console also has two 10-inch HD touchscreens as part of the Touch Pro Duo tech allowing you to swipe from one screen to another.
There's a gesture control sunblind and an "activity key" for anyone going for a swim, run or surf with the Range Rover parked up nearby.
The exterior styling hasn't changed much from the previous version although there's a tweaked front grille to mimic the Velar and new LED headlights.
Nick Collins, vehicle line director at Jaguar Land Rover, said: "The new Range Rover takes our luxury SUV to new heights, delivering enhanced refinement, luxury and all-terrain capability.
"The new PHEV powertrain isn’t simply a no-compromise solution – it builds on the traditions of our flagship SUV and delivers heightened refinement and comfort with impressive performance and efficiency."
