Ghost of Jaguar's past

Rare Jaguar E-Type presumed lost for 30 years expected to sell for £145,000 at auction

One of just six versions ever made, Jaguar experts believed this rare E-Type to be a "ghost". But having surfaced in a private collection, it is now due to be auctioned off for a hefty fee

AN incredibly rare Jaguar E-Type, believed to have been lost, has resurfaced after 30 years.

The model makes up part of pop industry icon Pete Waterman's private collection and has been given an estimated price of £145,000.

This original 1970 Series 3 2+2 model is thought to be the first Series 3 of just six made with a 4.2 litre six-cylinder "XK" engine, none of which were ever made available to the general public.

All other editions of the Series 3 came with a larger 5.3 litre V12 powerplant.

Jaguar Enthusiast Magazine referred to the car as "a ghost of an E-Type" and "the one missing link" in this year's August issue, as the model has not been seen since the late 1980s.

It was around that time that music producer Pete Waterman acquired the rare motor for his private collection, which includes a host of C-Types, D-Types and plenty of other iconic E-Types.

The vintage motor has just 53,800 miles on the clock, and has reportedly spent the majority of its time under Mr Waterman's ownership in dry storage.

Despite being recently repainted, the car remains largely original, according the H&H Auctioneers.

The classic car specialists will put the E-Type under the hammer at their Duxford sale on November 15.

The E-Type is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cars of all time with examples commanding hefty fees at auction.

And Jaguar has even revived the model with an electric engine as part of its plug-in future.
