BMW has launched a new electric car to take on Tesla.

The i Vision Dynamics concept promises a 373 mile range and a top speed of 120mph - and a production version WILL be built.

There's no confirmation on an exact date but it's expected to be on sale by 2021.

It forms part of BMW's commitment to have 25 electric or hybrid models on the road by 2025 - with 12 of those pure electric plug-ins.

When it arrives it'll sit above the compact i3 - which now has a sporty variant - and below the supercar performance of the i8.

Think of it as an electric 5 Series - and it could even be badged the i5.

It's good for 0-62mph in four seconds and 120mph.

The stand-out feature of the striking all-white concept is the front which does away with the traditional BMW kidney grille.

The outline is still there but it's packed with sensors instead.

The design itself is sleek and slimline to give the illusion it's been crafted from a single mould.

There's no detail on the interior but expect it to be loaded with latest gadgets like gesture control and autonomous features when it does arrive.

Harald Kruger, BMW chairman, said the four door grand coupe showed BMW's future.

He added: "We are electrifying the heart of the BMW brand and, at the same time, elevating BMW i into a totally new dimension."
