Iconic 60s Jaguar E-Type dubbed ‘the most beautiful car ever made’ sold for £90k with just 1,700 miles on the clock
Rare, barely-used example of classic Jaguar E-Type regarded as the prettiest car of all time sold at auction
THIS iconic Jaguar E-Type - voted best car of the 20th century - has racked up just 1,733 miles in its 47-year-life.
It was named as 'the most beautiful car ever made' by Enzo Ferrari and is a true British classic.
And this rare and barely-used sold for £90,000 at auction - £40,000 more than normally expected for a Series 2 2+2 E-Type.
The regency red Jag was bought new in 1969 by businessman Peter Ashcroft who scarcely drove it before placing it in storage at his home in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.
It remained there for 24 years until he commissioned a £25,000 'nuts and bolt' restoration which took eight years to complete.
Even after it was restored to its former glory, the eccentric owner only clocked up five miles in it before his death earlier this year.
Jaguar stopped making the E-Type in 1975 meaning almost all remaining models have done over 100,000 miles, making this example immensely rare.
In addition to its low mileage, it's a 'matching numbers machine', which means it still bears its major factory-fitted components.
E-Types are among the most highly sought after models in the world due to their lofty standing in automotive history as one of the most iconic of all time.
Damian Jones, of H&H Classics, said: "I have never come across an E-Type with a mileage as low as this one.
"While it's impossible to know for definite if there are any others with fewer on the clock it's fair to say this is right up there.
"The E-Type is quite simply one of the best cars ever made and the market for them today is as strong as ever, which explains its success at auction."
