AN all-new Volkswagen Polo has been revealed - and it's bigger and posher than ever before.

The 2017 Polo will go on sale later this year and do battle with the Ford Fiesta and SEAT Ibiza as best-selling supermini.

While the exterior doesn't look too different to the outgoing model, it's 81mm longer and 69mm wider.

That means there's plenty of extra space for passengers in the back plus luggage in the 351-litre boot.

The roomy cabin will be packed with technology including an eight-inch glass touchscreen infotainment system.

Extra customisation stretches to the outside, too, with increased paint options and alloy wheel designs.

There will only be a five-door option with the three-door axed due to falling sales.

While the new Polo is not on sale in the UK yet, entry-level models in Germany start from just €12,975 (£11,300).

Engine options will include 1.0-litre turbos, a 1.5-litre petrol and two 1.6-litre TDI diesels.

And at the top of the range will be a 200bhp Polo GTI.

It's expected to top the old model's 0-62mph time of 6.7 seconds and 147mph top speed.

It'll go head-to-head with the new Ford Fiesta ST.

The iconic GTI tartan patterned sports seats can still be specced alongside a red-stitched sports wheel and red calipers.

UK orders for the Polo are expected to begin in October with deliveries from January.
