Major road to close AGAIN just weeks after it was shut down in December as shuttle bus is laid on for stranded residents

A shuttle bus service has been organised to the minimise the effect on locals

A MAJOR road is set to close next month - mere weeks after it was shut to drivers for a long period over Christmas and the New Year.

The A646 Halifax Road, located in West Yorkshire, was closed on December 16 after a damaged sewer pipe led to emergency repairs between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.

The road eventually partially re-opened under two-way lights on January 23.

But is now set to close again on February 14 after Yorkshire Water revealed repair work needs to be completed further along the route.

While inconvenient, Yorkshire Water appears to be working hard to minimise the effect on locals - with even a shuttle bus service organised.

James Harrison, the firm’s head of customer field services, said they wanted to make sure the sewer was as "resilient as possible to reduce the likelihood of this happening again in future".

He added: "We absolutely understand the impact this will have following the closure of the same road in recent months."

"We will be working hard throughout the week to support local residents and businesses, which includes arranging a shuttle bus for the duration of the work."

According to the , the repair works will involve lining the section of sewer 65 metres upstream of where it was damaged before Christmas.

Ultimately, this will help prevent further issues from happening in future.

Yorkshire Water has said the road will be closed from the evening of February 14 until the morning of February 24 - with contractors working 24 hours a day from the evening of February 14 to 17.

After that, work will continue between 8am and 5pm.

In that time, a signed diversion route will be in place to manage traffic.

Sarah Courtney, Calderdale Council cabinet member for regeneration and transport, has reassured locals that the road will reopen as soon as possible.

She said: "We know this isn't the news anyone in the upper valley of Calderdale wanted to hear and I completely understand there will be concern about what this additional closure means for people living, working and travelling in the area."

This comes as a motorway used by hundreds of thousands of Brits each day has been pummelled by a string of closures.

Drivers will be frustrated to discover that the M4 will be hit by multiple closures as carriageway maintenance comes into effect until the end of the week.

And elsewhere, a hugely popular motorcycle dealership has been completely cleared out following their sudden closure.

Blade Motorcycle Group announced last month that its Swindon branch, located on Elgin Drive, had been shut down for good.

Established in 1995, the dealership represented eight motorcycle brands, including Ducati, Harley-DavidsonHondaSuzuki, Triumph, and Yamaha.

It also provided servicing to many of the brands mentioned above.

But in recent days it has been completely stripped - with all traces of Blade Motorcycles removed.

What's more, some mere weeks later, the company has suffered another blow after its Oxford Harley-Davidson branch in Abingdon closed down as well.
