Worst time of day to buy car insurance revealed – get it wrong & you could lose out on a whopping £500

It seems nighttime shoppers are the worst hit

DRIVERS are just realising that car insurance costs can double at certain times of day.

Indeed, getting it wrong and paying out for coverage at the wrong time could even see car owners lose out on as much as £500 - simply by failing to wait a few hours.

According to , the cost of car insurance can change by as much as 123% - simply depending on the time of day you buy it.

Their research suggests nighttime shoppers are the worst hit, as the dearest time to buy is reportedly between 3am and 4am, followed by midnight to 1am.

For their test, eight sets of quotes were run through for a typical London-based driver on a leading comparison website.

They found that over a 24 hour period, quotes returned from £441 to £519 for the same product.

What’s more, premium policies changed by even greater amounts - with the price of the AA's Silver policy more than doubling from £515 from 9am to midnight, to £1,078 between 3am and 6am.

Which? has said that comparison site Confused.com told them that prices for insurance coverage could increase by as much as 123% between midnight and 2am.

Quotezone also said that they increased by 22% on average between midnight and 6am.

The AA claims that the variation in cost is a result of underwriters offering higher prices during hours when fraud is likely to be more common.

Meanwhile, Admiral, which has been running for some 33 years, claims its data showed that people who looked for quotes during unsociable hours made more claims, leading to higher rates.

This comes as drivers travelling over Christmas have been warned to check their preferred route before setting off - with delays expected at five major motorways.

And elsewhere, a man who imported a Tesla Cybertruck to the UK is now facing a host of issues to get the EV registered.
