But Derek’s personal life became the subject of intense media scrutiny after news broke of his affair with a colleague 26 years his junior.

Derek Mathewson was married to wife Sue for 40 years.

The couple have two children together.

In February 2023, The Sun exclusively reported that Derek had an affair and left his wife Sue for married work colleague, Vicki Ivens.

Vicki had herself been married for 20 years.

During that time she had grown close to Derek and she even appeared in the Bangers and Cash show occasionally.

A source said: “Vicki told her husband in September that she was in love with Derek.

"She said it was as friends — like a dad thing.

“But last month, Sue turned up at Nicholas’s house with a list of phone numbers.

“He checked his bill and there were about 180 calls between them in three weeks.

"He confronted Vicki and she said she was glad he’d found out and was pleased she didn’t have to lie anymore.

"She kept saying it was nothing to do with Derek but it’s become apparent it’s all to do with him.”

Vicki and her former husband Nicholas have since divorced after 20 years together.

A divorce is yet to be confirmed between Sue and Derek.

Vicki is now working at Flamingo Land theme park in nearby Kirby Misperton.

Who is Derek Mathewson?

Born on October 13, 1951, Derek Mathewson is the star of Bangers And Cash and the owner of Mathewson's family car company. 

Over the years, he has drawn a legion of fans with his motor auction house show.

Derek began selling modern cars and trucks in Bedfordshire in 1970, before setting up business in North Yorkshire in the late 80s.

In the 2000s the classic and vintage side of Mathewsons began to grow, and in 2011 Derek launched Classic Car Auctions.

His booming business has also expanded into the car contract rental and leasing market, delivering motors throughout the UK.

Who are Sue Mathewson's sons?

Sue shares two son's with Derek, David and Paul.

Their sons appear on the smash hit TV show with their dad Derek.

The apple didn't fall far from the tree, as their sons share their dad's love of cars.

David Terrance Mathewson was born in July 1972, and is a car auctioneer.

Their second son Paul Craig Mathewson, born in January 1980, is a car dealer.

Paul has been a director of Mathewsons Classic Cars LTD, since May 11, 2021.

He also became a director of Mathewsons Auctions Limited in June 2023.

He has said that watching himself on TV is "bizarre";.

Paul's son Charlie is also seen in the Bangers and Cash series, when he joins his dad at work.

David was appointed as a director of the family business on September 1, 2023.

On Dave's 52nd birthday, dad Derek reminisced about his son's "frightening" arrival in the world.

He posted on Facebook: "52 years ago today he was born at l and d hospital.

"One of the 3 most frightening times of my life. Tiny and fragile I darent hold him.

"Collected him and sue a couple of days later in a Victor 101 estate bought a day before so that we had plenty of room for a pram cot etc.

"I've never driven a vehicle so carefully due to this valuable cargo."

He added: "Took them home and straight back to work.

"Sorry for that now but we had no money and I had to earn it.

"Similar with the other 2 although a little less financial pressure at that time.

"Thank heavens for the help of grandparents."
