Ten cars most likely to fail their MOT… and cost you hundreds to fix – do you drive a problem waiting to happen

Some may be surprised to hear the popular hatchback, the Peugeot 307 makes the list

TEN cars most likely to fail their MOT and cost hundreds of pounds to fix have been revealed.

Exclusive data shared by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency exposed the cars with the lowest MOT rates.

Three Chevrolet cars make the list, including the Lacetti

The Chevrolet Aveo also has one of the lowest MOT rates

Along with Chevrolet Kalos

It’s likely a whopping 40,000 of these 10 cars, which were all in showrooms in the noughties, are still being driven by Brits.

The pass rates of these is between 45.3 and 48.9 per cent with theaverage MOT pass rate much higher at 71.8 per cent.

Even worse, 25.9 per cent of the cars that failed their test at the first attempt, had “dangerous defects”, the DVSA describes.

If a car has both a major and dangerous defect, it automatically fails its MOT, costing hundreds of pounds.

It’s time to name and shame the cars that failed their MOT’s at the first attempt.

With a pass rate of 45.3 per cent, the worst car for passing the MOT in Britain is the one and only Mitsubishi Space Car (1999 – 2005).

Second, is the Peugeot 807 (2002-2010), with a pass rate of 46.1 per cent.

In third place, it’s the Citroen C8 (2003-2010) with a pass rate of 46.5 per cent.

Of the 636 tested, 340 failed.

The Dodge Caliber (2006 – 2009) has the fourth worst pass rate.

Of the 551 tested, 291 failed, making its pass rate just 47.2 per cent.

The Daewoo Matiz (1998- 2005) also has a pretty poor pass rate.

Of the 609 tested, 320 failed. Its pass rate is 47.5 per cent.

The Citroen Grand C4 Picasso is the sixth car most likely to fail its MOT based off 1,507 of them failing of the 2,875 tested.

Its pass rate is 47.6 per cent.

The Chevrolet Kalos (2005-2008) is next on the list.

Of the near 1,584 that have undergone MOTs in 2024, 47.6 per cent have failed.

The second-to-last Chevrolet is the Aveo – another budget friendly small car from the 2000s.

It was the typical cheap and cheerful type of car, but on a less cheerful note, of the 5,791 tested, 2,986 failed – giving it an average pass rate of 48.6 per cent.

Next is the Peugeot 307, a popular French hatchback.

Of the 19,584 tested, their pass rate remains at 48.6 per cent.

With a pass rate of 48.9 per cent, it’s the Chevrolet Lacetti.

The Lacetti is an early 2000s hatchback with relatively few of them sold at the time of production in 2011.

Of the 1,380 that have been MOT’d so far this year, 705 failed at the first attempt.
