A lane on the B1040 at East Delph, near Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, will be closed to traffic from October 28 through to November 22.

A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesperson said: "We’re pleased to confirm we have been able to bring forward the work to repair the B1040 at East Delph where a lane is closed after erosion had caused the bank to collapse.

"Work on the structural repairs will start on Monday 28 October and is expected to finish on 22 November.

"The road will be fully closed during the works and a diversion route will be signposted."

Flooding has caused issues for many routes in the area in recent weeks, with the council forced to close Ralph Butcher Causeway and Benwick Road.

At the time, a release said that the closures were "in response to flooding events, and due to subsidence and surface issues which we are working to fully resolve".

The latest update states that emergency road closures in the area will remain in place.

The council's recent statement added: "The emergency lane closure of the Ralph Butcher Causeway remains in place and we will continue to work with our contractors to ensure that traffic management measures are operating effectively."

"Programmed works on the Benwick Road emergency lane closure are planned to start in late November, following on from the works on the B1040.

"These works will also require a full road closure, and a diversion route will be in place."

Earlier this month, drivers were left stranded and, in a few extreme circumstances, had to be pulled from trapped cars on flooded roads as heavy rain battered the country.

Storm Ashley caused rivers to burst their banks and paths to collapse, with a handful of streets left underwater.

This comes as a key section of the M4 will close overnight between 8pm on October 29 and 6am on October 30.

Traffic Wales South announced the planned closure, which is due to roadworks being required in the area.

There will be a diversion for drivers to follow during the closure.

Elsewhere, a much-loved car dealership has announced it will close three of its sites as it relocates to a new "three-in-one" outlet.

The firm has been supplying Brits with models from iconic brands including Ferrari, Porsche and Mini for nearly six decades.
