Classic sports car previously owned by WWII flying ace on sale for £120,000
A rare Alvis sports car once owned by one of Britain's greatest ever fighter pilots will go under the hammer later this month.
A CLASSIC sports car once owned by World War Two pilot Sir Douglas Bader has emerged for sale.
The elegant Alvis TD21 was purchased by the flying ace some 15 years after his retirement from the RAF.
Former British car manufacturer Alvis produced the TD21 for just five years, between 1958 and 1963.
Bader, who passed away in 1982, is considered one of Britain’s greatest ever fighter pilots.
He joined the RAF in 1928, but following a crash in 1931, he lost both his legs and was retired from service.
However, when war broke out in 1939, Bader re-enlisted and went on to score 22 aerial victories over three years, before being captured by German forces and imprisoned until 1945.
The pilot’s former vehicle will be sold in Chichester, West Sussex on March 23.
