Spanish car manufacturer SEAT have released a captivating video showing how a gearbox is made.

EVER wondered what the inside of your car's gearbox looks like?

Well thanks to Spanish car manufacturer SEAT, not only can you now see what one looks like, but you can watch the entire manufacturing process.

For the first time in a manufacturing plant, a carmaker has installed point of view cameras at all different stages of the construction process, to show exactly how each gearbox comes to life.

Zipped together in an accelerated 60 second clip, the footage gives car-nuts a never-before-seen view of what goes into those delicate shifting devices.

Along with the captivating video, SEAT released a number of facts surrounding the manufacturing process.

It takes just 131 minutes to complete a five-speed manual gearbox, with one leaving the SEAT Components plant every 27 seconds.

Throughout that relatively short period, each unit will require the use of more than 500 machines and robots to piece together the 174 individual parts - as many as 18 million parts per year.

SEAT promise their units will last up to 250,000 km, and are tested to withstand temperatures of up to 900 degrees Celsius.

In addition, the Spanish company also make use of 95% recycled aluminium, making them highly sustainable.
