A MECHANIC has shared his "secret" method to save your motor from a car-killing issue with a 10p item that everyone has at home.
Picking up a bottle of the for pennies could save you thousands down the line on repairs - and even jazz up your look.
Motors whizz Scotty Kilmer urged drivers to watch out for the tiny signs of a big problem.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he explained how to keep an eye out for chipped paintwork.
While it may seem insignificant, any peeling of your paint is likely to just get worse over time.
That's because the paintwork forms a protective shell around the body of the car, shielding it from the elements.

If a gap appears, then the protective effect is heavily reduced.
Scotty explained: "Once your car's paint is chipped, the edges are open to the atmosphere.
"You need to seal it so that chip doesn't grow."
Not only can this lead to unsightly peeling, it can also allow moisture from the air to come into contact with the chassis.

Left unchecked, this can result in rust and corrosion, which can cost thousands to repair.
Fortunately, there is a cheap, quick and effective fix if you catch the problem early enough.
Scotty went on: "Get some clear fingernail polish and just dab it on."
This seals off the chip and prevents water from getting in through it.
You can pick up a bottle of clear nail polish for as little as £1 from Poundland or online for £3.75 on Amazon.
And with the amount needed to seal a chip, it should only cost you about 10p to make the vital repair.
After that, you can always use the rest to add a touch of style to your look while on the road.
It comes after Scotty shared a simple gadget that can save you from "wasting money" on costly repairs with an easy check.
