‘Astonishing’ future classic sports car that Jeremy Clarkson compared to the Mazda MX-5 can be yours for less than £8k

A JAPANESE sports car that's a potential modern classic can be bought for just £8,000 - and Jeremy Clarkson is a huge fan.

The incredible Toyota GT86, which was produced from 2012 until 2021, is an old school set of wheels that's loved by enthusiasts - and it's a top quality used car to buy in 2024.

Known for its engaging handling and track-appeal, Clarkson got behind the wheel of one when he presented Top Gear in 2012 and raced it around the programme's iconic circuit, later claiming: "It'll put a massive smile on the face of every motoring enthusiast in the world."

And in a review for , he wrote: "It’s strange. We thought purpose-designed coupe had gone.

"We thought wayward handling had gone, and we sure as hell thought genuinely good value had gone.

"But all three things are now back in one astonishing car.

That year, the GT86 was voted Top Gear magazine's Car of the Year and was also crowned Coupe of the Year.

It was also named winner of the Top Gear Speed Week - having been pitched against other motors like the McLaren MP4-12C, Porsche 911 Carrera S and Lotus Exige S.

While reasonably cheap to buy from new in 2012 at a price of £22,815 through to £35,115, petrolheads looking for a bargain sports car today can find a standard, second-hand GT86 model for as little as £8,000.

They even come well equipped, with all models coming with sports seats, cruise control and air conditioning, with other added extras available across the range - including a leather trim and sat-nav.

We found a 2013 example for just £7,995 on the website, with the listing describing it as "an authentic rear-wheel drive sports car with compelling style, exceptionally balanced performance and handling, flexible utility and surprising MPG."
