A TOP car brand is releasing a new 142mph hot hatchback today in an attempt to rival the VW Golf GTI.
The manufacturer promises that it "hasn't held back on performance" while perfecting the car, which comes in at around £6,000 cheaper than its competitor.
Cupra has unveiled its new Leon range, with a mixture of high-powered ICE and hybrid models.
The car will come in hatchback and estate bodies, with the V1 hatch coming in at just £31,000.
That's compared to the £37,000 sister company VW asks in return for the beloved Golf GTI hot hatch.
And while it can't keep up with the Golf's 155mph top speed, the Leon is now slouch at 142mph for the 272 e-hybrid version.

Indeed, speed and power were a key focus of the model's design.
Marcus Gossen, Director of Seat and Cupra UK, said: "We have not held back on performance either.
"Cupra Formentor and Leon have been redesigned to be as much of a thrill to drive as they are to look at with new powertrain options, both petrol and e-Hybrid."
The new additions mean a whopping lineup of 32 different Leon models spread across different power levels and body types, allowing drivers a vast selection of choices.

The exteriors have also been given a redesign, with an aggressive "shark-nose front end, triangular LED headlights, and a big, bold lower mouth".
This is intended to match the more sporty and performance-focussed update to the model, with the range-topping estate reaching over 300 horsepower.
And, as is very much the modern way, a large touchscreen display has been added inside to operate the extensive infotainment system.
The Leon, along with the new Formentor, is now on sale via Cupra's website.
Mr Gossen added: "These latest designs for the hugely successful Cupra Formentor and Cupra Leon have been developed to lead the brand into a new era.
"From the sustainable materials inside, to the integrated lighting outside, both models have been created to offer drivers an unforgettable experience.
"We’re delighted that we’re able to offer the new designs in addition to the Cupra Born VZ, giving UK drivers even more to choose from in our range."
