Mystery as driver comes home to find sunroof on her £30k Mercedes has exploded

A DRIVER came home to find her car’s glass sunroof had blown up.

Chanice Crystal Dawson, 31, said she could have been killed had she been in her £30,000 Mercedes during the blast.

She says: ‘I want to sell the car now as I’m petrified to get inside’

The explosion, caught on CCTV and possibly linked to the recent warm spell, sent shards of glass showering across her driveway.

Office worker Chanice, of Ramsgate, Kent, said: “I came back to my car and thought someone must have smashed it.

“But I watched the CCTV back and it just randomly blew up.

“I couldn’t wrap my head around it.

“It was just a complete mystery.

“I want to sell the car now as I’m petrified to get inside.

“If I was in the car driving on the motorway I could have died.

“I’ll often have my friend’s kids in there – who knows what would have happened to them if glass had exploded all over them.”

Mercedes sent a recovery truck to pick up the 2017 E-Class — but is refusing to cover the £1,400 repair bill.

It said there was no evidence of a manufacturing defect and advised Chanice to speak to her insurance company.
