An enormous number of components come together to ensure you’re comfortably transported – and safely.

So as a responsible car owner, key parts need to be well-maintained and cleaned regularly.

Some parts can get a build-up of dirt and grime, causing the components to wear down quickly.

Regular and thorough maintenance, including being proactive with cleaning, can prevent damage in the long term.

But as expert Kayla Keena reveals, this doesn’t necessarily mean expensive specialist products or having to spend hours labouring away with the elbow grease.

When it comes to keeping your door seals nice and clean, all you need is some mild soap and water, Kayla says.

Just by using that you can wash away any accumulated dirt and debris and “breathe new life into your car door seals”.

And a mild cleaning detergent will only cost pennies and last for ages.

A one litre bottle of Asda's own-brand "zesty lemon" washing up liquid costs £1.15, working out at just 12p for 100ml, according to supermarket price comparison site .

Many motorists may overlook the importance of cleaning their door seals and tend to forget about them.

But as Kayla points out they are an important part of keeping your car temperature “comfortable at all times of the year”.

They can also help minimise any outside noise in the cabin.

If your door seals are working properly they can help ensure the door stays shut and prevent bugs and pollutants getting in.

However, they do wear down over time and age and regular use can damage their ability to hold and do their job properly.

Other car parts that need regular cleaning that can get forgotten about

Catalytic Converter

Another key part Kayla recommends is cleaned regularly but people tend to forget about is the catalytic converter.

It’s part of the car’s exhaust system and helps filter out harmful pollutants, keeping your emissions safe.

However, over time those pollutants, along with dust and debris can build up and ultimately clock up your exhaust.

Kayla says the catalytic converter needs to be cleaned regularly but this is quite a simple job.

All you need to do is add some cleaner to your tank and let it go through your exhaust system.

This will loosen any clogs and get things back to running smoothly.

Interior Upholstery

Kayla also recommends regularly cleaning your interior upholstery.

Years of use can lead to extensive wear and tear and if you don’t clean it regularly it can all add up, leaving your car looking older than it really is.

The expert says all you need to do is give it a good clean with a vacuum every few months in order to remove any dirt or pet hair that might have built up.

Also remove any rubbish such as old bottles, bags and clothing.

You might also want to invest in an upholstery cleaner to remove stains and odours.

Kayla said: “Car maintenance is the most important thing you can do if you want to be a responsible car owner, and one major part of that is regular and thorough cleaning.

“Get the right tools, get a little greasy, and keep your car looking good for years.”
