AN expert mechanic has revealed the forgotten spot you need to clean to ensure your car runs smoothly.

Scotty Kilmer, who has more than 50 years of motors experience, has urged drivers to take heed of the advice.

Scotty says the method is so simple that "anyone can do it".

He revealed the tip on his YouTube channel, which is dedicated to improving motorist's experiences and minimise repair costs.

Viewers were quick to weigh in with their opinions on the helpful hack in the comments section.

Scotty said that every driver knows that your engine will idle faster after turning the keys.

Typically, engines idle at about 600-800 rpm.

And older engines may even go up to 1200 rpm or more while warming up.

But while it is normal for the engine to run at a higher-than-normal idle RPM after initial startup, there are limits.

He added: "But they are not supposed to idle up 2000rpm or more that's too fast.

"It often occurs because your throttle plate is sticking and needs cleaning."

Scotty told viewers that cleaning it is simple and easy.

He showed fellow motorheads to take the air duct off and use a spray cleaning agent to clean the throttle.

Scotty added: "You don't need to do this very often.

"Maybe once every year or once every couple years when the carbon builds up and needs cleaning."

But the expert mechanic said you should not shirk your cleaning duties when it gets dirty.

"It's an easy job and anybody can do it," claims Scotty.

Speaking on his YouTube, Scotty demonstrated how to car out the quick DIY maintenance trick safely in just minutes.

Your air conditioning system works by using refrigerant gas to absorb the heat from the air sucked into the car.

Over time, though, the refrigerant is depleted and needs to be replaced - this is often called "regassing".

Scotty said: "If your car's AC isn't blowing cold...you can add refrigerant."

And he also revealed a way to make your car's air-con "twice as cold" this summer.

And this expert mechanic has shared how simply washing your car at home could ruin it and leave you paying out hundreds in repairs.
